I would love a documentary about Asperger’s syndrome that spreads encouragement and hope and maybe even help us understand ourselves better. Let me know how I can help! :) Check out the book Aspergirls it’s amazing and encouraging.
I’m borderline Aspie along with my mom. If I told anyone that they wouldn’t believe me as I come off as pretty social. I have trouble with parties all the noise, lights, smells and people just overload my system and my brain kicks in the flight or fight response. So I try to stay close to the door, move around a lot or focus all my attention to one thing. It’s a challenge to start conversations but I like talking; possibly too much; so I start with a joke and try to figure the person out or learn everything I can from them. I don’t see the purpose of a conversation if you don’t learn anything from it. I heard that’s a typical trait for Aspies.
My father, brother and sister are textbook Asperger much like how John Elder Robison describes himself in “Look me in the Eye”. We have a crazy awesome time living together and working together. We get along great and the dinner table is always full of new ideas and deep conversations.
My parents met in a castle in Europe. They went for walks together talking about life the universe and everything nerdy. They’ve been married for 37 years and are still crazy in love with each other.

IMHO Aspies stand out because we fail to see the logic in spending all our energy on pretending we’d rather write a novel, make a movie or build a rocket-ship and that’s not a bad thing in my book!
As I’ve gotten older it has become more and more apparent just how much Asperger’s has held me back. Most of my childhood friends are having babies and getting married and buying houses for their growing families. I am the farthest from that as one can get. It is difficult to find advise from…
